Seems like this is one of those items that the superstitious might not wish to give a favorable review, unless they first knock on wood.

I think many people realize they can't give an accurate assessment until they've owned it for a good length of time. Although those that have problems will likely complain quite readily.
Being the second owner of my now 4yr old TV, I can say it's served me rather well this last couple of years without any problems at all. The picture is still perfect and it is still more than capable of displaying the HD content given from any cable provider.
However, because its 720P it can not display the full resolution of Blu-Ray... but that doesn't matter because unless you have superhuman vision you absolutely can not tell the difference at 10 feet away. Honestly, I can't tell the difference at even 4' away, but like most people I don't have 100% perfect vision. 20/20 only indicates how sharp or clear your vision is at a distance. Overall vision also includes peripheral awareness, eye coordination, depth perception, focusing ability and color vision. All things considered, the science and economics are in your favor to get a giant tv that is High Definition but not inhumanly high...and get one that has a reputation for quality and endurance. This one has stood the test of at least 4yrs strong.

Yes, TV bulbs do eventually have to be replaced, and a couple years ago there was a problem with a particular manufacturer of the bulbs for this model but that has long since been corrected. Also, the price of new bulbs have since dropped dramatically and hopefully will continue to drop.
By the given deadlines, my TV bulb is long overdue to die.

JVC 61" HD-ILA TV - HD-61Z575 Feature

  • HDTV monitor (compatible with HDTV/SDTV formats -- when connected to a separate HDTV tuner -- and displays all signals at 720p)
  • widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio
  • JVC D-ILA 3-chip LCoS design (1280 x 720 pixels each)
  • D.I.S.T. (upconverts all video signals to 720p)
One of the first of a new generation of high-definition, rear-projection televisions, JVC's 61-inch HD-61Z575 widescreen LCoS TV is based on the company's D-ILA (Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier) microdisplay device, the highest-density microdisplay device available in 2004. The D-ILA rear-projection TV is fully high-definition compatible, offering 1,280 x 720 pixel resolution and a 0.7-inch D-ILA device in a 3-chip design. The set also features JVC's Four-Point Color Management system and its exclusive Digital Image Scaling Technology (DIST), which upconverts incoming signals to deliver sharp, vivid images.

The 3-chip structure of JVC's D-ILA chip has the ability to continuously reproduce a flicker- and burn-free picture. In addition, an invisible pixel structure prevents color or motion artifacts, and a true analog gray scale provides outstanding gradations of black. For reliability, it uses an optical-stable inorganic alignment layer.

DIST upconverts all 480i and 480p signals to 720p using a JVC-exclusive algorithm. Jagged lines inherent in source signals are smoothed, vertical resolution gets enhanced. JVC's Four-Point Color Management delivers vivid colors by selecting 4 points from the color spectrum and separately adjusting each.

HD DSD (Digital Super Detail) edge enhancement is active on still-, fast-, and slow-motion areas of the picture for crisp, defined edges. Other features include Dynamic Gamma Control Circuitry, TheaterPro 6500K color temperature, Digital Noise Clear circuitry, an interactive plug-in menu, XDS ID display, and Natural Cinema 3-2 pulldown reversal (with on/off capability) for all telecine sources.

JVC's unique "Natural Progressive" picture improvement technologies optimize signal quality before a picture reaches the screen. Natural Progressive technology doubles the image data in each field and uses advanced 3D interpolation to display a solid image with no noticeable scan lines and to eliminate jagged edge noise and image trails.

An HDMI-compatible input with HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) offers an uncompressed digital connection for the transmission and display of high-definition audio/video programs. The set also includes dual auto-sensing component-video inputs, assuring the best possible picture quality from DTV, D-VHS or DVD, as well as 3 S-Video inputs and 4 composite-video-based AV inputs. Front-panel AV inputs (including S-video) simplify hookups with camcorders or other video devices.

The HD-61Z575 receives not only stereo broadcasts, but Second Audio Programming (or SAP), too, and you always have Advanced Hyper Surround to simulate surround sound from any 2 speakers. BBE High-Definition Audio improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.

JVC's AV CompuLink III simplifies operation with other JVC audio and video products, and an NTSC tuner offers split-screen and multi-screen PIP viewing. Running 6 years strong!! - Justin D. Arnett - Flagler Beach, FL
I bought my HD-ila brand new from Z-best electronics. I paid over 3k for it at the time. I know the downside to all DLP/LCOS tv's is the lamp burning out, however 6 years later, mine is still going strong. My tv averages at least 4 hours of use per day. I play many PS3 games on it and watch HD movies like crazy. The picture is outstanding. I want to upgrade to a 1080P tv, however this thing keeps kicking, and I honestly can't picture a tv looking better. Maybe side by side I'd see the difference, however in my home it looks flawless. I even got the swivel stand made by JVC so I can easily face the tv towards my dining room when it's time to eat.
A couple pointers for those of you with bulb issues.
-Never turn the tv off by a switch or unplugging it. Always allow it proper shutdown time so that the bulb can be cooled off by a fan.
-Keep the tv at least 2-3 feet from the wall behind it. This allows proper air flow to keep the bulb cool, and makes it less likely for a dusty build up.
-DUST!! Dont let dust sit on your screen, or on the back. This will clog up the air vents, causing the bulb to get very hot and blow.
-Don't constantly turn your tv on and off. Repeatedly doing this will also shorten the life of the tv. Just like a regular bulb!

I have more than gotten my moneys worth, and would gladly buy this tv again. Thanks JVC!!
